NOAH₂ SL is a sublingual version of the original NOAH₂ effervescent tablet. When a biologically active substance comes into a contact with the mucous membrane beneath the tongue, it diffuses through it. Since the connective tissue beneath the epithelium contains a profusion of capillaries, the active substance diffuses into them and enters the venous circulation. In contrast, substances absorbed in the intestines are subject to “first pass metabolism” in the liver before entering the general circulation.

Sublingual administration has certain advantages over oral administration. Being more direct, it is often faster, and it ensures that the substance “will risk” degradation only by salivary enzymes before entering the bloodstream, whereas orally administered drugs must survive passage through the hostile environment of the gastrointestinal tract, which “risks” degrading them. Furthermore, after absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, such drugs must pass to the liver, where they may be extensively altered; this is known as the “first pass effect” of drug metabolism.

However, the relative chemical stability of dissolved hydrogen gas prevents direct enzymatic activity on the same. Therefore, neither digestive nor salivary enzymes can change the dissolved hydrogen biological activity.

In case of sublingual hydrogen administration, the hydrogen gas promptly and fully enters the blood stream and is readily diffusing into brain, and heart, bypassing liver and the whole GI tract. This represents a big advantage if we wanted a fast action on the brain and heart which is often the case. For example, if one suffers from migraine (which is caused by an excess of dangerous oxidative substances called “ peroxy-nitrites”), and knowing the fact that peroxy-nitrites are fully and efficiently destroyed by gaseous activated molecular hydrogen, then sublingual administration will neutralize (remove) the migraine pain within minutes following an intake of hydrogen sublingual pill.

In conclusion, both oral routes of administration (direct ingestible/or indirect through drinking water and sublingual) are highly useful, but they differ between themselves according to the final goal to be achieved. In short, taking the pill “down the throat” helps directly GI tract and liver, in the first place, but taking it “under the tongue” helps our heart and brain immediately and directly.
